EU’s Drone Is Another Threat to Migrants and Refugees

Since May 2021, the European border agency Frontex has been using a drone in the area around Malta and thus has important information from boats that are near the Libyan coast. This information is passed on to Libyan authorities who intercept migrants and take them back to Libya to detention camps. In the specific case of 07/30/2021 being investigated by Human Rights Watch and Border Forensic, aerial footage shows that one of the boats was intercepted within the Maltese search and rescue zone and that the nearby Sea-Watch rescue vessel was not informed. read more
