Human rights groups set deadline to get all refugee children off Nauru
A coalition of some of Australia’s biggest humanitarian and human rights organisations have given the federal government a deadline to get all asylum seeker and refugee children off Nauru, one of Australia's offshore detention centres, as the health and safety crisis on the island worsens. “There’s a quite clear contravention of the refugee convention, and also we believe very strongly a breach of the rights of the child.” The Australian immigration minister, Peter Dutton, has repeatedly denied them access to healthcare in Australia, despite medical advice that it is a matter of life and death. read more
