A changing political situation in Syria as well as more restrictive policies in the EU contributed to the fall in numbers, but a persisting displacement crisis in Sudan, instability in the Sahel, and a lack of economic perspectives for young populations in South Asian countries have meant that large numbers of people continue to flee, including to the EU. read more
