Germany plans to admit up to four additional Taliban diplomats to speed up passport issuance for deportations and enable up to three charter flights per month to Afghanistan. Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt confirmed to the Tagesspiegel that technical-level talks are ongoing with Taliban representatives. PRO ASYL described the deportations as a violation of the international non-refoulement principle, given the risk of torture or inhuman treatment upon return to Afghanistan. The crew of the Ocean Viking, a ship operated by the humanitarian NGO SOS Mediterranée, has rescued 38 migrants in the Tunisian search and rescue zone. Among the 38 survivors are 14 unaccompanied minors and eight women, at least six of whom are themselves minors. Most on board originate from conflict regions, including Eritrea, Somalia, and Sudan. read more
