Germany halts voluntary visa programmes for refugees

Germany has suspended its voluntary humanitarian visa programmes, including those for Syrian refugees in Turkey and Russian dissidents. This follows controversy over the Afghan resettlement programme, through which over 45,000 people have been relocated. There have been legal challenges, with a Berlin court ruling that safe passage must be granted if a prior commitment has been made. read more
