The massacre of 3 October 2013: 368 migrants drowned a few metres from the port of Lampedusa

The old boat stopped a few hundred metres from the port of Lampedusa on the night of 3 October 2013. We do not know if the engine was switched off or if it was a breakdown, but, certainly, among the 543 people on board - Eritreans and Ethiopians, many women and children, all returning from the Libyan prisons - fear began to spread, not least because of a leakage of water that had opened on board.
