Denmark sends refugees back to Syria
In the summer of 2020, Denmark made a decision with which the country remains alone in Europe to this day: The authorities declared parts of Syria a safe country of return and began revoking the temporary residence permits of Syrian refugees in Denmark. The move was criticised by representatives of the United Nations and refugee organisations, but initially attracted little attention in Denmark or the rest of Europe.
