Watch The Med - Alarm Phone
Watch the Med Alarm Phone is a project launched in October 2014 by a network of activists and civilian actors in Europe and North Africa. The project started as a self-organized call-center for refugees and migrants, who are in distress in the Mediterranean.
The aim is to offer a second option for people in distress on sea to forward their call to the coast guard. Parallely, the case is documented and further support is mobilized. In this way, the respective persons in charge are put under pressure - as far as possible - to prevent human rights violations such as pushbacks.
European policies are not making a big effort to prevent dying in the Mediterranean Sea. On the contrary: the drowning of refugees is accepted as part of a politically planned deterrence policy. The aim is to practically oppose this unacceptable situation with the cooperation between the Sea-Watch project and borderline-europe. The MS Sea-Watch will provide inital aid to refugees in distress, and will demand and encourage the rescue by the responsible institutions.read more
