In autumn 2014 incidents with unattended, underaged refugees have already piled in the Hanseatic city. The mayor of Bremen, Jens Böhrnsen (SPD), wants now to let criminal young refugees be accommodated in closed institutions. "From my perspective this is nothing else than an act of helplessness," said Gundula Oerter, a consultant of the refugee initiative in Bremen, to the change of course of the mayor. "That happens at the expense of the persons affected," said the expert, "I would even consider this to be a violation of the child's welfare." read more

Si è tenuta nei giorni scorsi a Roma la conferenza ministeriale Eu-Horn of Africa Migration Route Initiative, meglio conosciuta come Processo di Khartoum, dal nome della capitale del paese in cui è stata organizzata la prima riunione di questo percorso che ha come obiettivo la «gestione delle rotte migratorie in provenienza del corno d’Africa». The Palestinian community in Greek Cyprus have reached a final agreement with the authorities which has effectively ended a stalemate for the Palestinian refugees who have fled the Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria. The Cypriot government will allow refugees to stay in a camp near Nicosia until Tuesday where they will be then moved to a more permanent camp. read more

Yemeni security officials say 17 African migrants drowned off Yemen’s shores when their boat carrying dozens capsized off the western coast. Officials said on Monday that the incident took place near the Bab-el-Mandeb strait. A total of 49 migrants were aboard the boat, they said. Most of the migrants were Ethiopian and Somalian. Search and rescue operations are underway, looking for any survivors. read more
