Europe, that started values such as Democracy and Solidarity, proves being unable to apply them practically. The continent can do and offer, much more than what has been done until today. The Greek Forum of Refugees receives every day messages from European citizens that would like to offer help. Unfortunately, the leaders' policies, worldwide, do not keep up with this movement and the least that we can do is to denounce it. read more

The protest, which began in mid-September, had already been going on for a week. Responding to a call on Facebook via the Crossing No More community, thousands of Syrians, Iraqis and Palestinians had made the almost 250-kilometer trip from Istanbul to Edirne. Some traveled from refugee camps in Jordan and Lebanon when they heard of the campaign. The key demand was for the gateway to Europe to open so they wouldn't have to turn to the smugglers in Izmir and Bodrum and take their chances with the “boats of death.” read more

Croatia reopened its main cargo crossing with Serbia on Friday after heated exchanges between the nations. The decision came hours after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban pledged to consult with governments in the region before moving ahead with plans to build a fence along the Croatian border. The concessions came shortly after an EU summit on the migrant crisis, suggesting that the 28-nation bloc had become alarmed at the lack of cooperation between neighboring governments and the increasingly ugly tone of their exchanges. read more
