No Rights for refugees - No Passport, no Participation
Tolerated refugees in Bremen hardly have a chance for an own bank account. This prevents their participation in almost every sector of daily life: no job, no own flat, no cellphone contract, no membership in an association or fitness studio. Even administrative offices often ask for an account when money is concerned. And yet, an EU-wide guideline from as early as 2014 allows all people unconditional access to a bank account. But: This guideline has not yet been transfered into German law, Berlin has time for that until September 2016. read more
