Entre le deux et le cinq août, la garde nationale et la police tunisiennes ont procédé à l'arrestation de plusieurs dizaines de personnes qui tentaient de quitter les côtes tunisiennes pour Lampedusa ou la Sicile. On peut penser que l'instabilité politique donne aux boat-people et passeurs l'illusion d'un relâchement des forces sécuritaires qui quadrillent côtes et eaux territoriales, alors qu'au contraire on constate une certaine rigueur de ces dernières depuis l'explosion de la crise. Le bilan des arrestations fait état de bateaux sous-équipés (pas de téléphone satellite ni de GPS) et ne fait pas mention de matériel de secours à bord. read more

The oil tanker M/T Salamis is expected to leave Malta and sail towards Italy with some 102 migrants it rescued on Monday aboard, government sources have confirmed. The development comes hours after home affairs minister Manuel Mallia addressed a press conference insisting Malta would not allow the Liberian-flagged tanker in its territorial waters after having "ignored" specific instructions by the Italian and Maltese governments to deliver the migrants to the nearest port of call, at Khoms in Libya. read more

European Commissioner urges Malta to let 102 migrants onboard MT Salamis to disembark as soon as possible.
