In a recent case of threatened deportation, a tragedy nearly happened. An Armenian asylum-seeker was arrested on World Refugee Day in order to be deported. As he went back to his apartment to pack up his belongings, his mother took a chlorine-containing substance. Her son suffered from a breathing difficulty attack. Australien zahlt laut Innenministerium Flüchtlingen beim Rückzug ihres Asylantrags und der Rückkehr in ihr Heimatland Geld. Dabei hängt die Höhe der Summe vom jeweiligen Land ab. So erhielten Libanesen Berichten zufolge den Maximalbetrag von 10.000 australischen Dollar (rund 6900 Euro), während Iraner 7000 und Afghanen 4000 Dollar erhielten. Flüchtlinge aus Pakistan und Sri Lanka sollen demnach weniger bekommen.
