At least 22 migrants trying to reach Greece by boat, including 11 women and four children, drowned Tuesday when their vessel sank off Turkey’s southwest coast, local media reported. Four young migrants were reportedly missing on Saturday, after their inflatable dinghy overturned north of the Aegean island of Samos. A Greek coast guard vessel located and rescued 25 migrants and refugees who informed authorities that the four children were missing. A Super Puma helicopter and three coast guard ships were taking part in the rescue operation over the weekend. In a separate incident, another search operation was under way Saturday to locate a 20-year-old migrant who went missing when a boat carrying 33 migrants and refugees overturned in the sea east of the island of Lesvos. read more
Around 120 prefabricated structures, similar to those used to house refugees at the Elaionas camp in Athens, have been moved to the city and are to be installed on land belonging to the Hellenic Railways Organization to house refugees who will find it more difficult to cross Greece’s northern borders while heading to Central Europe in the winter. Tens of thousands of refugees have passed through northern Greece this summer as they head to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia and Hungary on their way to Germany and other European countries further north. read more

In den frühen Morgenstunden des 13.9. kenterte ein Boot mit mindestens 100 Migranten an Bord vor der Insel Farmakonisi. 28 Leichen, darunter auch ein Kind sind auf deer Insel angeschwemmt worden, 69 Personen wurden von der Hafenpolizei gerettet und weiteren 29 gelang es Farmakonisi schwimmend zu erreichen. Mit einem Helikopter und mit Schiffen wird noch nach weiteren Vermißten gesucht. read more

In praktisch allen Medien bestimmt nicht nur in Deutschland derzeit das Flüchtlingsdrama das Bild. Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel oder der EU-Kommissionspräsident Jean-Claude Juncker (Juncker: 160.000 Flüchtlinge nach obligatorischen Quoten verteilen) haben nun offenbar ihr Herz für Flüchtlinge entdeckt. Doch in der vorherrschend monochromen Darstellung darf natürlich auch ein Bösewicht nicht fehlen, auf den Versagen abgewälzt wird. Weil auch Ungarn rabiat gegen flüchtende Menschen vorgeht und einen Zaun aufbaut, wird es von denen angegriffen, die genau das bisher mit ihrem Schweigen unterstützt haben. Spanien hat seine Grenzen längst gefährlich aufgerüstet und geht bisweilen sogar mörderisch gegen Flüchtlinge in den Exklaven Ceuta und Melilla vor. read more

Country's foreign minister says Hungary-style phsyical barrier may be necessary as 7,000 Syrian refugees enter Montenegro in a single day to reach the rest of EU from Greece.He said Macedonia will probably also need "some kind of a physical defence" though this would not be a long-term solution.
