Since 5 days in Edirne, Turkey, around 3000 thousands migrants (mostly syrians but also aghanis, irakis and others) gathered, following a call started on a Facebook page (“Crossing no more”), to ask for the turkish-greek border to be opened for them. They refuse to risk their lives in Aegean sea anymore to reach a european country where they’ll finally be safe, get basic human rights and have a chance to make a life for themselves. read more

Several hundred migrants who were blocked by police in northwest Turkey from crossing a land border to Greece this week drew a few kilometres closer to their destination Friday after the authorities briefly opened the route. Situated around 10 kilometres (six miles) from the Greek border and 20 kilometres (12 miles) from the Bulgarian frontier, Edirne has become a new rallying point for migrants trying to reach Europe. read more
Two new reception centers are being prepared – one for Attica and one near Thessaloniki. The aim is for both facilities to be operational in less than three weeks. The plan is for the migrants and refugees to stay there for two or three days until their registration is complete. Authorities are concerned that thousands of refugees and migrants could end up trapped in Greece as a number of European countries have essentially closed their borders to keep a flood of desperate people at bay. read more

According to Amnesty International hundreds of refugees and migrants remain trapped in “abysmal and rapidly deteriorating conditions” in Serbia, near the border with Hungary. Between 2,000 and 3,500 migrants now reach the island daily, riding on about 100 inflatable rafts. Three more countries followed Germany in introducing border checks to control the number of migrants while the European Union on Monday failed to agree on a modest plan that would force individual countries to take in a share of some of the hundreds of thousands now seeking asylum in Europe.
