Port state may control rescue ships according to ECJ ruling
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that states may only control rescue ships in their ports under appropriate, necessary and reasonable conditions. The German aid organization Sea-Watch had filed a lawsuit against the detention of two rescue ships by Italian authorities in 2020. Italian courts must now decide on the lawsuits, but in doing so they are bound by the ECJ's legal opinion. read more
